3 Light Burger Recipes You Can Make At Home (Chicken, Fish, Shrimp)

If you're looking for burger goodness, but you're trying to keep your meal light (especially during dinner), there are burger recipes made from lighter meats like chicken, shrimp and fish. You can make the patties ahead, put them in the freezer and pop in the oven for a delicious weeknight dinner.

Shrimp Burgers (The Frugal Girl)

The Frugal Girl has a great Shrimp Burger recipe that is light and perfectly delectable. The patties are made from ground shrimp, whole wheat bread crumbs, mayonnaise, scallions, parsley, lemon zest, salt, pepper, and cayenne. If you want to make this recipe extra healthy, you can use low-fat mayo.

"They remind me of a cross between a crab cake and a fish sandwich (especially if you top the burger with tartar sauce), and I think they’re really tasty."

  • 1 slice high-quality whole-wheat sandwich bread, torn into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 pound extra-large shrimp (21 to 25 per pound), peeled and deveined (I used 51-60 shrimp…way cheaper, and the burgers were still very tasty)
  • 3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
  • 2 scallions, sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • Pinch cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil (um, or butter)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

"The spices coated on the Mahi Mahi itself have the perfect amount of heat and those spices are seared into the fish while on the grill. To compliment the spice I grilled a pineapple for a little sweetness, then added some lettuce for greens and a slight spicy sweet Piquillo Pepper Aioli."
