Easy Recipe For Kids: Hot Dog + Puff Pastry = Magic

Hot dog is one of the easiest things to prepare as children's after-school snack. However, having the same sausage every day can make it boring. Good thing you can easily dress it up with puff pastry! There are tons of easy hot dog and puff pastry recipe for kids that are not only yummy, but are also very easy to make.

Pigs In a Puff Pastry Blanket (Foodie Crush)

This Pigs In a Puff Pastry Blanket recipe from Foodie Crush is a quick and easy recipe for kids to enjoy after a long day at school. It's basically wrapping hot dogs in puff pastries along with mustard and your favorite herbs  (thyme, marjoram and go well with this recipe). Brush with egg wash, pop in the oven and wait for the smell of the fragrant treat to embrace your kitchen!

"Everyone loves the simple bite of pigs in a blanket enveloped in a bread dough. But when you wrap these little hot dogs in flaky puff pastry, this appetizer heads to whole new heights of deliciousness."

  • 1 pound package frozen puff pastry, I use Pepperidge Farms
  • Flour, for dusting
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 8 uncooked jumbo all-beef kosher hot dogs or chicken sausage, cut in half lengthwise
  • 2 tablespoons smokey or grainy mustard
  • Small handful herbs such as thyme, marjoram or chopped rosemary
  • Kosher salt

Game Day Mini Hot Dog Bites (Foodness Gracious)

Foodness Gracious also has a neat recipe called Game Day Mini Hot Dog Bites. It's basically pigs in a blanket but tinier - but that doesn't mean these babies are small on flavor! The best thing about this easy recipe is that you only need three ingredients to pull off this lovely treat. It's a good kiddie snack and a great munch for game day too!

"They only have 3 ingredients and one of them is the egg for glazing the top of the dough, so I’m not even sure you could count that. Serve these hot from the oven with a choice of dipping sauces, but you better have some back up because they’ll go fast!"

Ludy's Kitchen Cooking Tip:

It's best to bake puff pastry in a silicone mat-lined baking sheet. This will prevent the dough from sticking to the pan and will allow it to retain its shape after baking.

Make cooking a lot easier and more enjoyable by using good quality silicone baking mats. Not only are silicone mats sturdy and durable. Because they're non-stick, you can also cut your clean-up time in half.
