Fruits To Snack On In The Evening For A Good Night's Sleep

Sometimes, quality sleep is hard to come by. But did you know that you can improve the quality of your slumber just by making a few adjustments to your evening snacks?

Cherry is one fruit that help the body prepare for slumber. This little round fruits are a good source of melatonin that helps regulate sleep. This ice cream recipe from Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom has a generous serving of cherries.

Homemade Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream from Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom
Ingredients:
6 safest choice pasteurized eggs
2 cups sugar plus 1/2 cup sugar (divided)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons good quality vanilla
6 cups milk (Your choice of whole or 2% milk, half n half, heavy cream- I always just use 2%, but the higher the fat content of the milk, the creamier the ice cream will be.)
12 to 16 oz of fresh or frozen pitted cherries.

Banana is another fruit that can help the body relax. The magnesium and potassium in bananas help the muscles and nerves relax, making it easier for the body to rest and drift off to dreamland.

Skinny Peanut Butter Banana Milkshake from She Knows
Ingredients:
1-1/2 large frozen ripe bananas, sliced
1/2 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup light cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/3-1/2 cup low-fat whipped topping

Hummus can also induce sleep. It has tryptophan, an amino acid that causes sleepiness. This easy recipe from The Chunky Chef is a very yummy one, and having this as an evening snack will surely bring you happy dreams.

Easy Roasted Garlic Hummus from The Chunky Chef
INGREDIENTS:
1 large head roasted garlic (recipe below)
2 Tbsp olive oil (preferably extra virgin)
1 (15 oz) can chick peas, drained and rinsed
3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
3 Tbsp tahini paste
1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
scant 1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp fresh rosemary, minced
2 - 3 Tbsp water
GARNISH:
Minced fresh parsley
Minced roasted garlic
Drizzle of olive oil
Sprinkle of sumac or cayenne pepper (optional)

TIP: To make your own tortilla chips to match with the hummus, place sliced tortilla chips on a baking sheet lined with silicone mat, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake until golden.
