Green smoothie has been one of the most popular health trends this past few years - and there's good reason for it!

Green leafy vegetables are rich in nutritional value. In fact, they're a go-to food for people trying to lose weight. As the year begins, it's best to detox with the help of these yummy, super healthy, and easy-to-make green smoothies.

In some Asian countries, green is a color for good  luck for it symbolizes money. For us, smart foodies, green smoothies also signify good health! So go ahead, whip up a refreshing glass of green smoothie and your body will thank you for it! 

 

Vanilla Lime Green Smoothie (Kitchen Treaty)

This recipe is a refreshing drink that owes its yummyness to yogurt, vanilla and lime. This is such a treat, you'll forget you're drinking something healthy! This is a great smoothie for breakfast or a good snack to re-hydrate your body after a workout. 

Vanilla Lime Green Smoothie recipe - With its tangy citrus and sweet vanilla, this nutrient-packed smoothie is reminiscent of a creamsicle – but with all of the goodness and none of the guilt.

"I love them for breakfast, as an afternoon pick-me-up, after yoga class … pretty much any time I can think up an excuse to have one, I’ll have one."

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup spinach leaves, packed
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 banana, best frozen
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (About 1 medium lime, depending on juiciness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 – 1 cup ice (optional)

Ginger-Orange Green Smoothie (Bridgid Gallagher)

This green smoothie is full of lively flavors including tangy orange and sweet-spicy ginger! Ginger gives this drink added nutritional benefits including reduction of muscle soreness and pain, supporting heart health, and combating inflammation, cough and sore throat.

"For added hydration, you can throw in some romaine and cucumber. Both are super-hydrating veggies, but they do add a little bitterness and cucumbery-ness."

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups filtered water
  • 4 generous handfuls fresh spinach
  • 4 romaine leaves (optional)
  • 2 navel oranges
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1"-2" knob of fresh ginger
  • 1 cucumber (optional) peel if not organic

Tropical Green Smoothie Recipe (The Watering Mouth)

A sip of this green smoothie will make you feel like you're in a vacation in a beach! The sweet-tangy combination of mangoes, pineapples and bananas creates a tropical party in your palate, you'll be hearing ukulele music in your head!

"I promise, just give it a shot and you won’t be able to taste a thing. It’s a great method to get on your way towards more dark green leafies in your diet every day. And you KNOW we should all be having those!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1½ large handfuls spinach or other leafy greens
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen grapes
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • 1 apple, chopped (optional, I didn't use it in the video)
