This week, we featured National food holidays celebrate scrumptious desserts that make every day life even sweeter! From succulent dessert fruits to all-time favorite treats, this is the week to forget about your diet and gorge on comfort food that would pump up your happy hormones and help you beat stress. After all, desserts is stressed spelled backwards!

National Strawberry Month

Strawberries are one of the most favorite fruits in all corners of the world and many strawberry-flavored food can attest to that. Before the National Strawberry Month ends, let's take a look at some recipes that highlight the succulent sweetness of the bright red fruit. Kicking It With Kelly has a great strawberry shortcake recipe that combines the sweetness of strawberries with the fresh tartness of lemons. Serve this dessert in mason jars for a rustic look!

1?2 cup butter, melted
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1?4 teaspoon salt
1 1?2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1?2 cup milk
1?4 cup lemon juice
1?4 cup sugar
1 small container of whipped topping
1 pint of strawberries

National Macaroon Day

May 31st is recognized as the National Macaroon Day. Not to be confused with French macaron which is made with almond flour-based meringue, macaroons are made with shredded coconut mixed in the meringue batter. The resulting confection which is toasted on the outside but chewy on the inside is heaven for any coconut lover!  

Coconut Macaroons from Glorious Treats
7 3/4 cups (3, 7 oz packages) sweetened flaked coconut
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (14oz) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup canned cream of coconut
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
6 oz. semi sweet chocolate

National Hazelnut Cake Day

The international popularity of Nutella just goes to show how many people appreciate the divine combination of hazelnuts and chocolate! And to celebrate National Hazelnut Cake Day, we're featuring various recipes with this scrumptious combo. 

The Moistest Mug Cake from Table For Two Blog
¼ cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. granulated sugar (you can add 1 tbsp. more if you like it a bit sweeter)
⅛ tsp. salt
¼ cup + 1 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 tbsp. hazelnut chocolate spread

Lovers of chocolate, mallows and nuts rejoice! It's National Rocky Road day today, and what better way to celebrate it than to treat yourself to glorious desserts made with the perfect combo of sweet, soft and crunchy.

Rocky Road Nutella Pudding Cookies from Crazy for Crust
1 stick butter, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup Nutella
1 (3.4 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2-1/4 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup Kraft Mallow Bits

Who doesn't love donuts? Soft and sweet munchies perfect with a steaming cup of coffee or tea, best eaten for breakfast... or anytime of the day, actually. This National Donut Day, take the time to appreciate every bite of your favorite donut - of better yet, explore new flavors by baking your own!

1 tablespoon instant yeast
3/4 cup lukewarm milk (heat in microwave)
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
¼ cup softened butter
¾ cup granulated sugar, plus more for coating
2 eggs
4 – 6 cups neutral tasting olive oil or other vegetable oil
1 cup cherry preserves and/or 1 cup pastry cream
